Early Preview: OpenBOM + Octopart

I’m very excited to share the first preview of the work we do at OpenBOM together with Octopart. The idea of integrating online sources of information needed for designers, manufacturing planners, procurement teams and all others involved in the process of product development was part of OpenBOM vision from the very early days.

Connected Services

This short article is an early preview of the work with doing at OpenBOM with Octopart. Octopart and OpenBOM have a common vision of the value of connected services in product development

The model of on-demand connected manufacturing services is also a new business model that makes it possible for vendors to provide support for the design, manufacturing of devices, components, and entire products from a single PCB prototype to an entire assembly. To make it happen, cloud-based software platforms should become available to provide instant quotes, manage bills of materials and product information, and track inventory and purchase orders.

To support such a vision, OpenBOM will be introducing the access to Octopart online catalog and will support instant data retrieval, search and many other functions allowing to use of Octopart features inside OpenBOM.

Octopart Search in OpenBOM

The integrated search will be available in the OpenBOM import catalog function.

In the following video, I want to give you a very early preview of the first service – search and instant retrieval of part information directly from Octopart.

Feedback Needed

I also want to ask everyone, if you’re interested in early preview, discussion about this feature as well as open to provide feedback about licensing of Octopart services with OpenBOM, please contact our support team – support @ openbom dot com.

Conclusion

Digital transformation is coming to manufacturing. The foundation of digital transformation in manufacturing is online connected services capable to work together to empower manufacturing companies to build better products faster. Our vision of openness, collaboration, and connected services is blended well with the vision of Octopart to be an ultimate source of information about electronic parts.

If you’re interested in Octopart functions in OpenBOM, please reach out to us to discuss (via support @ openbom dot com).

Best, Oleg
