OpenBOM Roadmap Discussion: A Path Toward Continuous Improvement and Open Collaboration

At OpenBOM we help manufacturers to develop and launch new products to maximize their revenues. We brought our vision of how to harness the power of data to help people in engineering, operational, and procurement roles to solve the problem of data accuracy, accelerating product development and mitigating supply chain risks when purchasing and developing components.

From the first days of OpenBOM development, we focused on how to combine our product vision with the priorities and feedback of our customers. It became part of our agile product development approach. We are expanding and improving OpenBOM every day and we bring product updates on a monthly basis.

Part of this continuous improvement and development is the discussion about what features are needed and what improvements will serve our customers in the best way. The trick is to combine our strategy with customers’ priorities.

We’ve been listening to our customers from the day we started OpenBOM and today we want to take it to the next level and to share and make this discussion available on the OpenBOM community website.

Here are three elements of OpenBOM roadmap development and updates.

Continuous Development: Monthly Releases and Seamless Upgrades

OpenBOM firmly believes in a continuous development approach that aligns with the fast-evolving digital world. The monthly release cycle is a testament to this commitment. By rolling out regular updates, OpenBOM ensures its users always have access to the latest tools and features, thereby enhancing their efficiency and productivity. These releases aren’t just about introducing new features; they also include performance enhancements, bug fixes, and interface improvements that aim to offer a seamless user experience.

One of the key elements of OpenBOM’s strategy is its focus on the seamless upgrades of its multi-tenant platform. This approach ensures that all users on the platform can benefit from updates simultaneously, without the need for individual installations or upgrade procedures. It also guarantees that all users, regardless of their location or time zone, have the same level of access and functionality.

Open Discussion of Features and Improvements

OpenBOM believes in the power of collaboration and open communication. An essential part of the development process involves actively seeking feedback from the user community about features and improvements. OpenBOM is keen to understand users’ experiences, their challenges, and their needs. This approach not only helps in refining existing features but also plays a crucial role in identifying potential new ones.

Open discussions are facilitated through various channels, including blogs, videos, social media platforms, and now, the OpenBOM community website. We encourage every member of its community to participate and share their thoughts, ideas, and experiences, creating a sense of shared ownership and purpose.

Community Access to Roadmap Discussion

In addition to inviting feedback on features and improvements, OpenBOM extends the principles of openness and collaboration to its strategic planning process. The company provides its community with access to roadmap discussions. By doing so, OpenBOM creates an opportunity for users to understand the long-term vision, plans, and goals of the platform.

Allowing community access to roadmap discussions also invites input on the direction and priorities of OpenBOM’s development. The users, who interact with the platform daily and understand its practical application, can offer valuable insights that contribute to shaping a roadmap that truly aligns with their needs and challenges.

OpenBOM’s approach of engaging its community in these discussions fosters a sense of belonging and ownership among its users, reinforcing the idea that OpenBOM isn’t just a tool, but a community-driven platform.

Conclusion

OpenBOM’s development strategy, built around continuous development, open discussions of features and improvements, and community access to roadmap discussions, underlines our commitment to creating a user-centric, dynamic, and collaborative platform. By actively involving its community in its development process, OpenBOM is not only ensuring that its platform stays relevant and effective but also fostering a sense of shared ownership and partnership with its users. This combination of technological innovation and community involvement is what sets OpenBOM apart and positions it as a leader in the field.
