OpenBOM SaaS Onboarding Process Experience

If you’re in the process of setting up your engineering and manufacturing business with OpenBOM, here’s a behind-the-scenes look at the onboarding process from our team. From provisioning your account to configuring your settings and syncing your first bill of materials from CAD systems, we’ll take you through each step of the way. By the end of this blog post, you’ll have a better understanding of how the OpenBOM Cloud-Native SaaS platform works and what to expect during the onboarding process.

Not Your Typical PLM and ERP

Mainstream PLM and ERP systems are famous for their high level of complexity and need to engage with a lengthy implementation process and expensive services. When it comes to OpenBOM, it is very different.

It all starts from the fact OpenBOM is a cloud-native platform and it is available online immediately at any moment. Any company that is interested in adopting OpenBOM is welcome to create an account, go to our Online Training Library, find a lot of materials, learn about digital transformation, product lifecycle management, entire product lifecycle, supply chain, digital thread, and many other aspects of engineering and manufacturing software including PLM, ERP, cloud technologies and other disciplines. The important thing is that it gives you both – an online experience and online materials to explore and learn.

There is no better way to learn something than by building and doing something. Companies are struggling to digest mainstream PLM marketing presentations because… let’s be honest- everything works when it is presented on slides. But the devil is in details and therefore, OpenBOM cloud-native platform is a key element in the experience. You can import data, share it with other employees, learn about processes, get access to more resources, and learn how new employees will start using the systems. All together, it makes OpenBOM a great onboarding experience.

How to Get OpenBOM Onboarding Service

OpenBOM onboarding service is available for everyone who is coming to OpenBOM. At the moment of me writing this article, if you have one of the following subscriptions, the onboarding is included in the price:

  • Professional Team (Annual)
  • Company (Annual)

All other subscribers can purchase the OpenBOM onboarding service online.

Onboarding Phases

So, what is included and what is the structure of the service? The onboarding service contains 3 phases. The first phase is virtual and it includes the preparation steps needed for your successful onboarding – answering questions, collecting sample data. The material we share with you at this stage allows you to kick the team-building discussion helping you to consolidate your opinion about important topics such as – Part Numbers, Change Processes, and others.

The second phase, “Build” is a 1-hour live session that includes an understanding of data flow, building examples, and getting yourself familiar with OpenBOM. A typical process includes creating a catalog, making a first BOM, managing inventory (QOH), sending PO and release to production. It can also include advanced topics such as change management and some others. The process is fully customized and can be tailored to specific customer needs.

The last phase, “Handoff” does exactly what it says. During this process, we ensure that everything we did is understood and confirmed by basic implementation steps done on the customer side, the first portion of the data is loaded and understood. We also spend time during this step to talk about the next steps in the OpenBOM service adoption.

Beyond Training

At OpenBOM, we look beyond traditional training, which includes tracking what buttons to click and how to follow a predefined process built-in with the product. The flexibility and availability of cloud-native OpenBOM platforms allow us to build a process that is interactive, flexible, and educational, to set a foundation to support the digital transformation of your business using modern online services.

Conclusion

Time is money. If you’re an engineering, manufacturing, or construction business, saving time during adopting new digital processes can be the ultimate thing to do. The onboarding process is the way that helps us to capture your requirements, to explain to you what OpenBOM can do, and build a common roadmap for success.
