In this video, I talk about how to overcome the resistance to change. The change is one of the hardest things, so when you want to do it, some good practices are needed. At OpenBOM, we learned how to help the moving stage buy stage when changing the way you organize product information and manage the Bill of Materials.
There are a few tips I can recommend you do in order to make the change easier.
1- Start with a catalog.
Think about the catalog as a central storge of data about everything you manage in your company – parts, materials, assemblies, semi-finished products. Every single thing should be in catalog(s) and OpenBOM will use it as a single version of the truth.
2- Select a test project to try out.
Don’t try to move all product information to OpenBOM in a single shot. Pick a small test product to test it out. It will give you an idea of how OpenBOM works and how catalogs and BOMs are linked together using the reference-instance model.
3- Contact support
Our support is the best. If you have questions about how to use products, please contact us using the Support button on the right side of the application. We answer fast.

Conclusion
Change is hard, but if you approach it in a structured way and step by step it helps to make it easy. Have you plan as 1-2-3. Think about a catalog(s) as a centralized way to manage all items (parts, assemblies, materials). Get a test project and try it out by creating a BOM for a small project. Also, keep in mind that OpenBOM support is the best- click on the support button if you have questions. We answer quickly, give you tips about how to manage your data, and also connect you to certified OpenBOM consultants and partners.
